DIVERSITY & INCLUSION

International Educators of Illinois is dedicated to promoting diversity, equity, inclusion, and justice within the field of International Education and amplifying voices that are too often unheard or dismissed. We believe that international education is inextricably tied to systems of oppression. Therefore, as international educators, we have a responsibility to engage in social justice work. As an organization, IEI is committed to combatting systemic oppression and discrimination in its many forms.

IEI DEIJ Book & Discussion Club

This is a space for folks in International Education (IE) who care about Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Justice (DEIJ) to read, connect, and discuss. Each month, we’ll pick a book based on a selected theme; we’ll also share related articles, videos, and other resources to add to the conversation.
You don’t have to read the book at all to join—whether you are deep into the book or skimmed a few related articles, everyone is welcome. We will chat about the main text, discuss the other resources, and dive into any other ideas that come up. It’s all about sharing perspectives and learning together.
To join, just email [email protected] to request access to our Google Group. As a member, you’ll get updates on selected materials (books, articles, and more), invites to upcoming discussions, and a chance to connect with others in the group. We welcome all discussion, questions, and outreach!

Resources for International Educators

IEI has compiled a list of resources pertaining to diversity and inclusion for each of the international education Knowledge Communities. We hope that these resources will better equip you to work with students of diverse backgrounds and advocate for diversity and inclusion at your institution. This is by no means an exhaustive list, and if you have suggestions of resources to add, please complete the suggestion form at the bottom of this page.
